how to crochet cute puppy keychains (free pattern + video tutorial)


Hi everyone! This is the written pattern for reference to my youtube tutorial. There are 2 versions - one for regular/chenille yarn and one for thicker fluffy yarn. The size differs, but the shape remains the same (brown puppy is pattern 1 and white puppy is pattern 2). Happy crocheting, I hope you love yours :)

Materials I used: my Amazon storefront

Abbreviations/terminology:

sc - single crochet / ss - slip stitch / fake magic ring - make a slip knot, chain 3, ss into the 1st chain, chain 1, then insert the stitches into the circle formed between the chains

PATTERN 1 (regular or chenille yarn)

Head

Round 1 - 8 sc

Round 2 - 2 sc in every stitch (16)

Round 3 - 1 sc, increase (24)

Round 4 to 8 - 1 sc in every stitch (24)

Round 9 - 1 sc, decrease (16)

Round 10 - 8 decreases

Body

Round 1 - 8 sc

Round 2 - 2 sc in every stitch (16)

Round 3 - 1 sc, increase (24)

Round 4 to 7 - 1 sc in every stitch (24)

Round 8 - 1 sc, decrease (16)

Round 9 - 1 sc in every stitch (16)

Round 10 - 8 decreases

Ears

Round 1 - 6 dc

Round 2 - 1 sc, increase (9)

Round 3 to 5 - 1 sc in every stitch (9)

3 sc through both sides to close the top

Arms

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 - 1 sc, increase (9)

Round 3 and 4 - 1 sc in every stitch (9)

3 sc through both sides to close the top

Legs

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 - 2 sc in every stitch (12)

Round 3 and 4 - 1 sc in every stitch (12)

Snout

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 - 2 sc in every stitch (12)

Round 3 - 1 sc in every stitch (12)

PATTERN 2 (thicker fluffy yarn)

Please note that the fluffy yarn hides A LOT of stitches, so the shapes may differ based on tension, accidentally missing stitches, or just the varied thickness of the yarn's fluffiness. 

Start all the pieces with a real or fake magic ring! Then, sew together in the same order as the video demonstrations.

Head

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 - 2 sc in every stitch (12)

Round 3 to 6 - 1 sc in every stitch (12)

Round 7 - 1 sc, decrease (9)

Arms

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 and 3 - 1 sc in every stitch (6)

Legs 

Round 1 - 6 sc

Round 2 and 3 - 1 sc in every stitch (6)

Ears 

Round 1 - 5 sc

Round 2 - 1 sc in every stitch

Snout 

Round 1 - 6 sc

Body

Round 1 - 5 sc
