how to crochet cute & easy buttons (free pattern + tutorial!)
Hi everyone! As you might know by now, I'm on a mission to add whimsy to everyday life with cute crochet projects, and what better way to do that than with some fun buttons :)
You can use these as hair accessories, keychains for your bags, decorative charms for your shoes, or journals; the options are endless! Let me know what you're thinking of using them for and happy crocheting <3
Materials:
Stitch marker, scissors, stuffing, 2 yarn colors (one for the button and one for the cross detail, optional needle for weaving in the ends
For a smaller button - fine weight yarn with a 2 or 2.5 mm hook
For a slightly bigger button - DK weight yarn with a 3 or 3.5 mm hook
For a palm-sized button, you can also use a medium weight yarn with a 4 mm hook but make sure your stitches are really tight!
Click here for my amazon storefront that has some yarns that would work for this project and other materials you'll need to turn them into keychains and accessories.
Abbreviations:
ss - slip stitch / sc - single crochet / increase - 2 sc in the same stitch / remember to not insert any stitches into the "chain 1 + ss" that's at the end of each round - these would look like stitches before the marked stitch, but they don't count as one
PATTERN 1 (used in the video demonstration)
Make a magic ring and chain 1 to start
Round 1 - 8 sc (place a stitch marker in the 1st stitch)
Round 2 - repeat *2 sc, chain 3* 4 times
Round 3 - repeat *2 sc, 5 sc in the chain space* 4 times
Round 4 - 1 sc in the front loops only (28 stitches)
Round 5 - repeat *2 sc, increase*
Round 6 - repeat *3 sc, increase*
Flip to the back side...round 1 - repeat *2 sc, increase* in the back loops
Round 2 - repeat *3 sc, increase*
Join the sides by inserting your hook through both the top and bottom stitches and slip stitching them together (add stuffing every few stitches) - sss to end your work and fasten off
Cross detail: make a slip knot, then chain 10-15 and thread the chains through the holes
