easy 3-in-1 crochet bag pattern + video tutorial | cute shoulder bags and crossbody messenger bag

Hi everyone! Here's a quick and easy pattern and you can customize to make a bag of any size and design. These are perfect accessory for summer and you can decorate with them with bag charms and keychains :) Click me for the YouTube video tutorial!

Abbreviations:

ss - slip stitch / sc - single crochet

If you want to make the bags the same size as mine, please note the yarn/hook size (I recommend watching the first section of the video where I explain in detail which yarn/hook size to use!). I used a 9 mm hook with thick/bulky yarns: chunky yarn from Hope's Wool and wool-ease thick and quick yarn from Lion Brand

The measurements of my bags...

1. Crossbody messenger bag: body of the bag is 8 inches wide / strap is 30 inches long

2. Pink shoulder bag: body of the bag is 7.5 inches wide / strap is 14 inches long

3. Mini green/cream shoulder bag: body of the bag is 7 inches wide / strap is 14 inches long

You can find more than a thousand classes taught by experts on a variety of topics including crochet, knitting, fine arts, marketing, entrepreneurship, business, social media, and lots more.

Step 1: Make the body of the bag by following the pattern below...

Make a slip knot and chain the width you want for the body of the bag

Round 1 - skip the 1st chain then insert 1 sc into every chain, insert 3 sc in the last chain, now work on the other side of the chains...insert 1 sc in the back loops of every chain, insert 2 sc in the last chain

Round 2 onwards - insert 1 sc in every stitch all the way around (make sure to not accidentally skip a stitch!)

Crochet as many rounds as you want until you have the desired size for the bag. If you want to make your bag the same size as mine, here are the number of chains and rounds...

1. Crossbody messenger bag: 18 chains / 16 rounds

2. Pink shoulder bag: 17 chains / 13 rounds

3. Mini green/cream shoulder bag: 15 chains / 10 rounds

Step 2: Strap

Stop crocheting rounds at one corner of your work, ss into the stitch where the strap will start, chain the length you want for the strap, ss into the corner stitch on the other side, ss into the next stitch, insert 1 sc into every chain to make the 1st row, ss into the corner stitch on the other side

You can stop here or make the 2nd row - insert 1 sc in every stitch to make the strap thicker OR insert 1 ss in every stitch to make the strap tighter

OR Strap with curved design

Mark the stitches for the curved design on both sides of the bag with stitch markers (i marked 11 stitches on both sides)

Side 1: Sc until you reach the 1st marker, ss into the marked stitch, turn your work and skip the ss then insert 1 sc in every stitch until you reach the 2nd marker, ss into the marked stitch, turn your work and skip the ss then insert 1 sc in every stitch until you reach the other side, repeat *skip the last stitch, turn your work and skip the 1st stitch, insert 1 sc in every stitch until you reach the other side*

Crochet rows that decrease in stitches until you have the thickness you want for the strap. For example, I stopped when I had 4 stitches left in the row. Then, crochet rows for the strap - repeat *turn your work, insert 1 sc in every stitch*

Step 3 for messenger mag: Flap

After finishing the strap, insert 1 sc in every stitch until you reach the corner of the bag. Turn your work, then crochet rows of 1 sc in every stitch until you have the length you want for the strap. I did 10 rows for my flap.

Optional Step 4: crochet a border of sc or ss around the straps/flap of your bag to make the edges look neater.

Optional Step 5: decorate your bag with flower clips or cute crochet bag charms! I have a bunch of free tutorials and patterns you can use to create charms for your bags here. Hope you love them <3
