how to crochet the cutest mesh bag (any size!) | beginner-friendly tutorial + easy V-stitch pattern

Hi everyone! Here's the written pattern for the perfect mesh bag for summer :) I recommend watching the video tutorial for step-by-step demonstrations and using this pattern as a reference.

You can find all the materials/yarns I used on my amazon storefront. I recommend using a dk/medium-weight yarn with a 4, 4.5, or 5 mm hook to make the bag sturdy.

Abbreviations:

ss - slip stitch / dc - double crochet

Part 1: Base

- Chain the width you want for the bag (I did 36 chains for a width of around 9 inches)

- Chain 2 more then insert 6 dc into the 3rd chain from your hook (mark the 1st dc)

- Insert 1 dc into every chain down the row

- Insert 6 dc into the last chain

- Now work on the other side of your work! Insert 1 dc into the backs of every chain

- To end the 1st round, ss into the 1st dc

- To start the next round, chain 2. Insert 2 dc in the same stitch x 6 times

- Insert 1 dc into every stitch until you reach the stitch marker

- Insert 2 dc in the same stitch x 6 times

- Insert 1 dc into every stitch until you reach the end of this round, ss into the dc to complete.

Part 2: Body of the bag (made with V-stitches)

Repeat the following pattern to crochet rounds until the bag is the size you want (I did 12 rows and my bag is around 6 inches long)

- Chain 4 to start a new round, then insert 1 dc into the 1st space

- Repeat all the way around to make V-stitches *skip 2 stitches, in the 3rd space = 1 dc, chain 1, 1 dc*

Part 3: Straps

Continue making the straps directly after completing the last round for the body...

- Chain 4, then dc into the 1st space

- Repeat 2 times *skip 2 stitches, in the 3rd space = 1 dc, chain 1, 1 dc*

- Insert 1 dc into the next space to end this row

Repeat the following steps to crochet rows until the strap is as long as you want (I did 39 rows to make my straps around 20 inches long)

- Chain 2 and turn your work, then insert 1 dc into the 1st stitch

- Repeat 2 times *skip 2 stitches, in the 3rd space = 1 dc, chain 1, 1 dc*

- Insert 1 dc into the last stitch to end the row

Once you're done, turn your bag inside out. Then, ss the strap to the other corner side of your bag.

Part 4: Bow details

Using ribbon, wool, or any chunky yarn, cut 2 long strands of equal lengths. Weave them through the middle of the straps, then tie the ends into bows on both sides.

Thank you for crocheting with me! you can find more cute and easy bag tutorials here. I hope you love the bag you made :)
