DESIGN
The cardigan features a repetitive stitch pattern and easy-to-assemble panels. Whether you're looking for everyday comfort or a stylish layering piece, this cozy cardigan is a staple to have in your wardrobe that you'll enjoy making and wearing.
Keeping that in mind, you can easily adjust the following...
MY CARDIGAN'S MEASUREMENTS
Back panel - width 45 cm / length 45 cm
Width of sleeves and armhole - 18 cm (36 cm all around)
Length of sleeves - 42 cm
Width of front panel - 14 cm at the top and 22 cm at the bottom
Shoulder section - 15 stitches / 14 cm wide on both sides and 5 rows / 5.5 cm long)
Strings for the bows - 47 cm long
Use Google to convert cm to inches if that’s what you prefer!
YARN: My cardigan is made with light weight (size 3) yarn that's a blend of alpaca and mohair. I used around 300 grams of yarn (6 balls of 50 grams each) for size XS/S. You can find more details about the yarn I used here.
LENGTH - Make your cardigan longer/full-length by doing more rows of half double crochets or make it shorter/cropped by doing fewer rows
WIDTH - Create a comfy oversized fit by making the front and back panels wider (you can do this by doing more foundation half double crochets when starting your project) or you can create a fitted cardigan by making the front and back panels the same size as your chest measurements (you can do this by crocheting foundation half double crochets until the panel is the same width as your chest or the measurement from shoulder to shoulder)
SLEEVE LENGTH & ARMHOLE - You can make a full-sleeve, mid-sleeve, or half-sleeve cardigan by doing more or less rounds of half double crochets. Note that the width of the sleeves is the same as the width of the armhole! So, if you want looser sleeves, leave more space open at the top for the armhole and if you want fitted sleeves, then leave less space so the cardigan will fit closer to your arms.
MORE NOTES:
- The number of rows in the front panels should be the same as in the back panel. The rows of the shoulder section are counted separately and are not included in the rows for the front and back panels!
- The top half of the front panel is the slope design and it should end by the middle row, which is the total number of rows in the back panel divided by 2. The bottom half of the front panel (after the middle row) should have straight edges on both sides and no increases.
- Try to crochet even numbers (ex. 14, 22, 36, 42) when making the rows and stitches, so it's easier to create a pattern for the slope.
- You can easily make the tie-front bow shorter or longer by doing more/less foundation single crochets.
